Our success has not gone down well with a few people. They have copied our name and used it.As you are all aware mumbailaity.wordpress.com was formed and registerd in May 2010 and since then we had news of the catholic world being published and thousands of persons have visited our site and read our articles. No person can take the same name again and there is no need to take a copyright for the same since wordpress will not allow the same blog name. There can never be  two same e mail ids of two different persons.

As has been informed earlier this blog was started to air the views and publish articles which the laity had not been informed or which were not published by the newspapers/Sites which claim to be catholic. The site does not earn any revenue nor does it collect donations.

There is a certain individual who loves Mumbai so much that he has left Mumbai and yet by remaining out of Mumbai wants to serve Mumbai. How ironic. He furthur claims that he is not controlled by the Archbishop of the place where he lives .The said person can also be sued for defamation but he has to return to India.

We were not sure who was backing this individual and the reason why a similar name as that of Mumbaility.Wordpress.com taken, now we are aware who are the different persons backing this individual.Unfortunately the said persons in Mumbai are not coming in the open. The said person was in touch via e mail with mumbailaity.wordpress.com before he could launch his site which had a name similar to ours  .As was informed earlier the idea was to misguide and confuse readers who would be looking for our blog. However that did not work despite our site being free.

If that person had the courage of his convictions he should have chosen a name which is different and should not have tried to ride piggy back on another persons success.

Let it be known loud and clear that mumbailaity.wordpress.com is here to stay. The laity of Mumbai and India have a right to know the truth.Yes the truth does hurt.In fact persons who are covering the misdeeds of the wrong doer are guilty of the sin of complicity and we too pray for them that

God grant them the serenity
to accept the things they cannot change;
courage to change the things they can;
and wisdom to know the difference. .

Vatican rife with corruption, TV show alleges

Vatican rife with corruption, TV show alleges

Irish Times

“To remedy this situation, the Cardinal president [Giovanni Lajolo] had handed over the administration of the [city-state’s] funds to a finance committee, made up of distinguished bankers who, however, tended more to do their own business than ours.

PADDY AGNEW in Rome

Was the secretary general so good at his job he made serious Holy See enemies?

Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano overhauled the maintenance of the Vatican Gardens, saving up to €850,000 a yearTHIS IS a tale of corruption, dishonesty, poison-pen letters and fetid rivalry in the Holy See. At the centre of the tale is the suspicion that the current papal nuncio to the US, Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, was promoted to that prestigious post, partly to get him out of the way.

Is it possible that in his previous role, as secretary general of the “governatorato” (government) of the Vatican city-state, Vigano did such an effective job that he made serious enemies within the Holy See? Above all, how come that someone who immediately transformed the city-state’s balance sheet from a €7.8 million deficit to a €34 million profit was removed? Those allegations were made this week by the Italian current affairs TV programme The Untouchables . Based on letters written by Vigano and on testimony from bankers and Vatican figures, the programme depicts a Vatican village rife with corruption, dishonesty and career rivalry.

So, what is new, the cynic might ask. What is different about the Vigano case is that it is the current nuncio to the US himself who spells out the problems: “When I accepted the job at the governatorato in July 2009, I was well aware of the risks I was facing, but I never imagined that I would come against such a disastrous situation . . .

“To remedy this situation, the Cardinal president [Giovanni Lajolo] had handed over the administration of the [city-state’s] funds to a finance committee, made up of distinguished bankers who, however, tended more to do their own business than ours. For example, in one transaction in December 2009, they managed to lose us $2.5 million dollars,” wrote Vigano in a letter to Pope Benedict on April 4th last year, a letter that featured in the TV programme.

While the Holy See’s senior spokesman, Fr Federico Lombardi, was quick to issue a lengthy statement on Thursday this week in which he expressed “bitterness for the diffusion of private documents”, significantly he did not claim that the letter was a fake. But he did point out that, given the gravity of the accusations made by the programme against Vatican figures and advisers, the Holy See might pursue “legal remedies”.

Vigano depicts a Vatican city-state in which the practice of awarding contracts (building projects, maintenance of the Vatican Gardens and of Holy See edifices etc) to outside firms at inflated costs was normal routine. “Friends of friends” had to be looked after and the same firms always got the job.

The new secretary general, however, changed all that, in the process reducing costs dramatically. For example, the Vatican’s huge Christmas crib in St Peter’s Square in 2009 had cost €550,000. By 2010, he had reduced that to €300,000.

Vigano also discovered that some Vatican contractors were doing very little for their handsome recompense. The Vatican City’s centralised and not very reliable heating system had gone practically unchanged since the 1960s. He had a new, efficient boiler installed with consequent savings. Likewise, he overhauled the maintenance of the Vatican Gardens, saving up to €850,000 a year.

In total, his new regime of centralised accountability saw the city-state balance sheet go from a €7-€8 million loss to a €34 million profit in 12 months. Admittedly other factors such as a huge increase in Vatican museum revenues, partly because of longer opening hours, played their part.

Nonetheless, it looks like very good housekeeping.

So why in the spring of last year, did the Berlusconi family-owned daily Il Giornale carry a couple of short, unsigned articles claiming that Vigano had been such a disaster that he would shortly be removed? In a letter last May to the secretary of state, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, quoted yesterday in Il Fatto Quotidiano , Vigano names names, claiming he was the victim of a slur-campaign by Holy See rivals, including Mgr Paolo Nicolini, an official in the Vatican museum.

In all of this, what exactly was the role of Bertone, the all-powerful Vatican “prime minister” who recently informed all Vatican offices that any communication with the pope must first pass through him? Was Vigano just a little ingenuous, ending up a victim of the age-old Vatican “ promoveatur ut amoveatur ” (Let’s promote him and move him) principle? More worringly, is this episode another example of Benedict’s stock-in-trade promote-them and then ignore-them style of governance? Did this particular new broom sweep out too many cupboards?

Any reference to Archbishop Diarmuid Martin and his work on clerical sex abuse is, of course, purely coincidental.

FIGHTING CORRUPTION AND INJUSTICE NOT A EASY MISSION

 By Aires Rodrigues

Fighting injustice is no easy task. One faces a backlash of crank calls, vicious anonymous letters and more seriously the risk of an attempt on one’s life.

On 13th October 2008 such an attempt was made by a gang of seven who had come all ready to dispatch me to heaven or maybe to hell. It was, however, a miraculous escape. My time may have not have been up.

The Panaji police who launched a massive manhunt for the attackers were able to arrest six accused at Mahableswar where they had fled after attacking me. It has now been over three years but the seventh accused, Dinesh Patil  is still absconding.

The case has been going on for the last three years. On 6th December last year, in the true Christian spirit of forgiveness in the season of advent, I felt it was proper to pardon and forgive these six young misguided youth. I accordingly met the Judge concerned and put my request in writing that I would not like to prejudice the future of these young six. The pain they inflicted on me was heavy but the trauma and ordeal they faced after the attack and over the last three years was appropriate punishment and a pardon may help them reform themselves.

Over the last 35 years of fighting against injustice, nobody has been able to intimidate me. I have never been cowed down by any threats of consequences that I have had to face for speaking out fearlessly.

Over the years I have never hesitated to take on the powerful and mighty over a wide range of issues. Be it the Governor of Goa on the Right to Information Act or the High Court Judges attending that private dinner at an Advocate’s residence, I have never shied away from pursuing a whole range of issues involving senior politicians to well-connected bureaucrats. Even that October 13th 2008 brutal attempt on my life has not cowed me down.

I have had nothing personal against anyone about whom I have raised issues over the years. When highlighting an issue, it is bound to hurt some individuals. Have I hurt one too many? One has to have the spine to speak out against things that are wrong.  I will continue to highlight any injustice that I see. Nothing shall deter me and my commitment in this regard. The risk of having one’s fingers chopped is a small price one may have to pay in the bigger battle against corruption and injustice.

I am content that over the years I have been able to achieve a lot without being a Panch, Sarpanch, MLA or MP. By not being elected as a Corporator last year I was saved from having to embroil myself with the Corporation of the City of Panaji’s garbage.  One does not have to hold any position to serve those seeking justice. In recent years the Right to Information Act has been a big aid and a very handy tool in fighting for what is right and exposing the rampant corruption.

Looking back over the last over three and half decades, I do not regret having taken up any issue I did. At times one pays a heavy price and fighting public causes does take a toll on your family life. Having crossed 50, it may be time to slow down but one needs to maintain the spirit and keep on fighting. Life is a very short voyage, a journey, the end of which we know not. So let’s keep up the fight

No Entry for Justice Saldanha and P.B D’Sa in Mangalore Club – Update

27th January 2012

To:

The Secretary,
Mangalore Club,
Jeppu,
Mangalore – 575 002.

Dear Sir

The Press has given wide publicity to the fact that a notice has been publicly displayed at the Mangalore Club since 2nd December 2011 to the effect that I have been banned from entering the Club and there is a further mandate that I should not be admitted there even as a guest.

I am calling upon you to indicate as to under what Provision of Law this decision/action was taken and to furnish to me a copy of the Resolution dated 30th November 2011 and the persons who are parties to it. One Dr. Errol Pinto who is a Committee Member of the Club is also a Council Member of CASK. Apart from this connection, my investigations indicate that there was a meeting between the Office-bearers of CASK and your Committee pursuant to which, this action has emerged and legal action will follow against the entire group of conspirators.

The Mangalore Club is required to function under a Licence issued by the Government and the action that has been taken is in breach of the conditions of that licence and will entail revocation of that licence. You are called upon to justify, if that is possible, the facts / grounds on which the action in question was taken. Secondly, as per the Law of the land, it is not permissible to debar any person lawful entry unless the person is a known Criminal, Terrorist or anti-social element who is likely to disrupt the activities of the Club or cause serious loss or harm. If you and your colleagues categorise me under any of these heads, be bold enough to say so in writing and take the consequences.

It is very clear that the arrogance levels with which you and your co-conspirators have functioned are representative of the type of people who use this Club i.e. the super rich. There are also strong over-tones of what went on during the days of the Raj at this Club when the British set it up at a secluded spot outside the town and kept Indians away, so that their so-called merry-making activities should be screened from the public notice.

The Mangalore Club stands on Government Land for which a ridiculously low Lease Rent is being paid. There is no justification for such a large area of Government Land to be used by the Club which caters to a small number of super-rich who come there to drink and gamble. Withthe money levels that the Club and its members possess, they should acquire a prime property in some other secluded area and vacate the Government Land which can be fruitfully used by the Citizens of this congested city. That is a separate issue which I propose to take up. You will be happy to know that the Government of Karnataka has terminated the Lease of the Turf Club in Bangalore, in the public interest. The decision was challenged before the High Court and the Supreme Court and the Club has lost before both the Forums.

I am hereby serving this Notice on you and giving you a period of FIFTEEN DAYS within which you can reply if you so desire. The Criminal action under Section 500 read with 34 IPC is “without prejudice” to recovery of exemplary damages for Defamation from the Club and each of the co-conspirators personally which will follow. In the meanwhile, since it is a requirement of law, you are called upon to withdraw the action in question and to tender an unconditional written apology within a period of 15 days from the date of receipt hereof. All action will be at your risk as to costs and consequences.

Yours Faithfully

Pope Benedict hit by new Church child abuse allegations

Pope Benedict hit by new Church child abuse allegations

source: mailed by Prem D’Sa

The Pope is facing allegations he was responsible for delaying Church action against a paedophile priest – the first time he has been accused so directly.

1985 letter with Cardinal Ratzinger's signature

1985 letter with Cardinal Ratzinger's signature

The allegations stem from a letter signed by Benedict XVI in 1985, when he was a senior Vatican official. Associated Press said it had obtained the letter, signed by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, resisting the defrocking of offending US priest Stephen Kiesle. The Vatican says he was exercising due caution before sacking the priest. Cardinal Ratzinger – who was at the time the head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith – said the “good of the universal Church” needed to be considered in any defrocking, AP reported.

Vatican officials say the letter was part of a long correspondence and should not be taken out of context. Vatican spokesman Rev Federico Lombardi said: “The press office doesn’t believe it is necessary to respond to every single document taken out of context regarding particular legal situations.” The allegations come as the Vatican says the Pope is willing to meet more victims of clerical abuse, and as the Vatican prepares to publish a guide on the internet about how bishops should deal with accusations of sexual abuse.

The Catholic Church has been hit by a series of child abuse scandals, including in Ireland, the US, Germany and Norway, and has faced criticism for failing to deal adequately with the problem.

‘Grave significance’

AP says the 1985 correspondence, written in Latin, shows Cardinal Ratzinger saying that Kiesle’s removal would need careful review. Cardinal Ratzinger urged “as much paternal care as possible” for Kiesle. Kiesle was sentenced to six years in prison in 2004 after admitting molesting a young girl in 1995. Kiesle is now 63 and is on the registered sex offenders list in California. On Friday, the Vatican urged Catholic dioceses around the world to co-operate with police investigating sex abuse allegations against priests. Father Lombardi acknowledged that the Church had lost public trust and said Church law could no longer be placed above civil laws if that trust were to be recovered.AP said the Rev Kiesle was sentenced to three years of probation in 1978 for lewd conduct with two young boys in San Francisco. It said the Oakland diocese had recommended Kiesle’s removal in 1981 but that that did not happen until 1987. Cardinal Ratzinger took over the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, which at the time dealt with some sex abuse cases, in 1981.

He also said Pope Benedict was prepared to meet more victims of abuse to offer them moral support. BBC religious affairs correspondent Robert Pigott says this is an abrupt change of tone by the Vatican. He says officials had previously accused critics of trying to smear the Pope personally and only last weekend said he should ignore petty gossip directed at him. Meanwhile Italian media have reported that the Vatican is to issue guidelines on its website on Monday on fighting paedophilia. The Vatican has ruled out any possibility of a papal resignation over the scandals.

The Vatican claims the letter must be considered in its true context of a lengthy exchange of correspondence between California and Rome about defrocking an American priest who was a known child molester.

The Pope’s critics claim that he stalled and left unanswered for years letters concerning alleged cases of sexual abuse by priests.

American bishops are coming under increasing pressure from their flocks to explain why the church in Rome did not take more robust action or took no action at all.

So they are releasing confidential documents which put the future Pope’s lack of action in a bad light.

The Vatican insists that the Pope was only exercising due caution before sacking a priest for sexual misconduct.

ALLEGATIONS FACING POPE

  • In 1980 as archbishop of Munich and Freising, then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger unwittingly approved housing for a priest accused of child abuse. A former deputy later said he made the decision
  • Cardinal Ratzinger failed to act over complaints during the 1990s about US priest Lawrence Murphy, who is thought to have abused some 200 deaf boys in Wisconsin
  • Cardinal Ratzinger allowed a case against Arizona priest Michael Teta to languish at the Vatican for more than a decade despite repeated pleas for his removal
  • Cardinal Ratzinger resisted the defrocking of California priest Stephen Kiesle, a convicted offender, saying “good of the universal Church” needed to be considered
The Pope’s supporters say he has been unfairly blamed for cases handled by junior staff, and that he has been proactive in addressing child abuse.

German priest admits 280 counts of sexual abuse

BBC mapA German Catholic priest has admitted 280 counts of sexual abuse involving three boys in the past decade, saying he did not think he was doing harm. Named only as Andreas L, the priest told a court in Braunschweig that he had first abused the nine-year-old son of a widowed woman parishioner. After being banned by his diocese from making further contact with the boy, he abused two brothers, aged nine and 13. Thousands of Germans have left the Church over revelations of abuse.

About 180,000 renounced their Catholicism in 2010, up 40% from the previous year, the German broadcaster Deutsche Welle reports. Pope Benedict XVI, a German by birth, briefly met victims of sexual abuse by priests when he visited his native land in September, expressing “deep compassion and regret” at their suffering. Disneyland Paris The priest on trial in Braunschweig faces a minimum prison sentence of between six and six and a half years.

He was arrested during the summer, after the mother of his earlier victim reported him to the authorities.  Continue reading the main story

“Start QuoteIt was never my impression that the children did not consent”

Fr Andreas She acted after her son, now aged 17, revealed to her the abuse he had undergone for two years. Sexual assaults were made on the three boys in various settings: at the priest’s house, on skiing holidays, in a parental home, on a trip to Disneyland Paris and at a church shortly before Mass. The priest, who covered his face with a ring binder as he went into court on Thursday, said that while working in Braunschweig in 2004, he had begun a close relationship with the widow. When Fr Andreas was moved to Salzgitter, her son often spent weekends with him, and the two would go off on short trips. He would give the boy presents such as a camera and a mobile phone.

Abuse would often occur three times a weekend. The priest said it had not been his intention to get close to the boy sexually, and that it had never occurred to him that he was doing harm. Pornographic images When the mother began to suspect her son’s relations with the priest were inappropriately close, she approached the diocese of Hildesheim, the priest’s employer, which forbade further contact with the boy. The abuse of the two brothers then began under similar circumstances, the court heard. After contact with these victims was also forbidden, the priest approached his first victim again, writing him a letter. It was then that the truth about the abuse emerged.

“It was never my impression that the children did not consent,” the priest was quoted as saying at the trial. When asked in court if he was a paedophile, he replied, according to local newspaper Braunschweiger Zeitung: “It would be wrong to say No but to say Yes would also fall short of the truth.” When a prosecutor asked him in court if he thought a “father would do this to his children”, he was silent. About 2,800 pornographic images were found on the priest’s computer, including several of his victims. Correspondents say members of the public who were in the courtroom watched the trial with faces rigid from shock. They included parishioners from St Joseph’s Church in Salzgitter, where Fr Andreas had once been a respected priest, according to Germany’s Spiegel magazine.

First beneficiary of Diocese’s 160 house-project says she has been deceived

Mangalore, January 22: “Jesus Christ will not forgive the sin of the Mangalore Diocese, which is fooling poor Christians without any sense of shame” —  This was the reaction of a poor Christian couple, which was projected as the first beneficiary of the ‘Mangalore Diocese’s ‘philanthropic project’ of donating 160 houses to poor as part of its post-centenary silver jubilee celebrations.PUCL_21Jan_1

“We are deeply hurt after coming to know that media projected us as the first beneficiaries of the Mangalore Diocese’s so called ‘shelter-for-poor’ project. In fact we were the first victims of the unpardonable lie and deceit of the Diocese”, said Irene Rita D’Souza, whose husband John D’Souza had received the key from Mangalore Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza on January 16, at a formal ‘house donation function’ in the presence of media at Maroli near here.

“Neither me, nor my husband were aware that Mangalore Diocese was going to project our newly constructed house as donation, when they forcefully organized a ‘house-warming’ celebration”, said D’Souza at a press conference convened by the local unit of Peoples Union for Civil Liberties here on Saturday.

“How can the Church people call it a donation, when I had pledged my gold ornaments to construct this 400 square feet house on our own land?,” questioned Irene D’Souza, who claims herself to be an illiterate.

Irene and her husband who resided in a rented house in Kulashekara for many years, had dreamt of constructing a house of their own.

“By pledging three gold ornaments including a wedding ring, I was able to raise Rs70, 000 to construct the house. However, we needed more money to complete the house” she said.

PUCL_21Jan_2

“Meanwhile, Kulashekara Church furnished me a loan of Rs 1 lakh and asked to sign on a stamp paper committing me to pay Rs 2,000 every month. They also gave me Rs 50,000 additional loan. However, when the Church people invited me for the loan they did not inform me about the Diocese’s plan of house donation,” she said.

She said that she came to know about the real picture only after people began to point fingers at her.

“I felt humiliated when I was told that the house was a donation of the church. Feeling robbed of my self-respect, I immediately returned Rs 50,000 to Fr Valerian Pinto in Kulashekara church,” she said.

She also said that she wanted to return the loan of Rs 1 lakh too at a public function in front of the media. “Let Mangalore Diocese organize a function to take back their loan and remove the plaque with the engraving that the house is a donation of Mangalore diocese,” she said.

She also criticised the double standard of the priests. “They preach in the Church that when you do alms, let not your left hand know what your right hand does. But the same priests projected the house constructed with my own money and with the help of loans, as their donation”, she lamented.

PUCL State President PB D’sa said the family’s plight was just a tip of the iceberg when it comes to the blunders of the Mangalore Diocese. He predicted that there would be a repeat of such incidents as diocese completes 160 houses.

President, PUCL Comments:

This is a huge Fraud played by the “Cassock wearing Wolves in Sheep’s Garb”. When 50% of Mangalore belongs to Mangalore Diocese occupied by their Mulgeni tenants of the diocese, which Bishop is administrating as the trustee for the benefit of the laity or the final beneficiaries. Is there any need to collect further money from the laity and build small dungeons unfit for even pigs to live?
The entire Christian communities specially the Mulgeni holders who are numbering around 4 Lakhs (Subject to corrections) will benefit immensely and become the most prosperous community in South India, forget about only in Mangalore. I have personally and on behalf of several organizations demanded from the Bishop this for the last 15 years and he has arrogantly told me that it is his property and I have no right to demand this. Simply because he is a Bishop he does not become the owner of the diocesan properties. The entire laity’s numbering 98% of Christian Population are the co-owners of this land. But unfortunately the Bishop Who calls himself the most religious and charitable man is trading with the land belonging to somebody else and committing a serious offence of breach of trust and cheating a huge fraud on the public. Bishop requires to be put “Behind the Bars” for this offence for collecting 33.33% of the amount on the land and swallowing the same without showing any account of this.160 houses for poor is a mere drama under the pretext of this scheme Walter D’Mello and Denis Moras two collaborators with the Bishop have gone to the Middle east and collected about 18 crores. What has happened to this amount? The so called first house is handed over by the Bishop was another public fraud. About this there was a press conference addressed by me and the office bearers of united Christian Association on 22 January. I would request Daijiworld and Mangalorean.com and other media to give proper publicity to our Press Conference.
I have fought for press freedom and the let the press be true to their profession.

Comment 2:

I congratulate coastal digest management for upholding press freedom and projecting the problems of the least and the last who have been pushed to the wall. As against this we have one or two websites belonging to Christians who have repeatedly blacked out the genuine news released to them by PUCL and Christian Reforms Foundation. Just because the rich and powerful can affect their business they behave like Rats in Front of These rich and powerful people who have actually become rich by dubious activities and criminal methods.
“Birds of the same feather flock together”
As a social activists i have released a true fact finding report about the mischief and fraud played by the Bishop and his followers in two cases, But these websites have given credence to the false news of the Bishop and their Gang and the true revealed by us does not find any place anywhere in their pages.
“Rats will remain Rats”, you cannot turn them into Lions.

Tension grips Uppinangady following provocative speech; Stones pelted at mosques, 7 injured

Mangalore, January 22: Tense atmosphere prevailed in Uppinangady following a provocative speech by Rashtriya Swayamsevak sangh leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, who threatened to attack and shoot down the Muslim youths. Mr Bhat was addressing hundreds of people who took part in Hindu Samajotsava at Chatrapati Shivaji Maidan. When the police allowed Mr Bhat to continue his speech, dozens of Muslim youth gathered at a junction near Uppinangady bus stand urged the police to stop the “fanatic terrorists”.uppi

At this situation a verbal clash broke out between police and youths and the former resorted to mild baton charge. However, timely intervention of few Muslim leaders, who managed to send back the youths to their homes, brought the situation under control. However, the situation turned worse, when the youths returning from Samajotsava began to shout provocative slogans near bus stand. The police, once again had to resort to baton charge to disperse the mob.A few minutes later the youths from majority and minority communities confronted near Central Jum’a Masjid. However, police managed to disperse the mob.

Meanwhile, miscreants pelted stones at Juma Masjid situated behind the Government Hospital. The miscreants also threw stones at police, who rushed to the spot to disperse the mob. Subrahmanya police sub inspector Sunil Patil and two other constables got injured in the incident. There were reports of damages from various places in and around the town. Stone were pelted at a cloth shop, a mobile centre and a fancy shop in Uppinangady.

A group of provoked youths, on their way back from Samajotsava, threw stones at Masjid building at Konthur near Kadaba. Another group was stopped by police while trying to attack an elderly Muslim man near Periyadka. As per the latest reports, at least seven people have been injured in the aftermath of Samajotsava. A few among the injured have been admitted to a private hospital in Puttur.

Provocation

Mr Bhat, who was apparently trying to provoke the gathering throughout his speech, lashed out at Muslims and Christians, portraying them as traitors and enemies of Hindus.“All the Muslims here are devils. Under the pretext of peace and friendship they wage ‘love jehad’ and convert Hindu girls into Islam and sell them to foreign countries”, he said. “We should not hesitate to teach them an unforgettable lesson to these devils”, he added. He went on to claim that Muslim youths who convert Hindu girls through ‘love jehad’ would receive cash rewards. “Those Muslim youths who convert a Kashmiri girl will receive Rs 9 lakh. The reward for converting a Panjabi girl is Rs 7 lakh. Those who convert other Hindu girls will be paid Rs 5 lakh”, he said adding some vulgar jokes.HD_23Jan_8

Mr Bhat also urged the Hindu youths to attack and torture their Muslim counterparts if the latter were seen talking with Hindu girls.“If we hand them over to police, the latter will allow them to go home after receiving Rs 15,000 from them. Hence, we have decided to teach an unforgettable lesson to them without handing over to the police. We know how to punish them”, he said.

“We will shoot down such Muslim youths”, he shouted.

Mr Bhat also warned the Hindu parents against sending their children to the educational institutions run by Christians. “Christians have built schools and hospitals here only with the intention of conversion and not for any noble cause”, he said. “Why do you send your children to such Christian schools instead of Hindu schools? Why should Hindu children call the Christian priests as Fathers?”, he questioned. Mr Bhat’s speech was audible across the town by fixing loud speakers in various places, in an apparent violation of a recent harmony-meet resolution to confine loud speakers only to the convention venue.

President, PUCL Comments:

It is a pity that a rat from Kalladka is allowed to screech and scream on public platforms who has suddenly become courageous, whereas he was hiding in rat hole somewhere in an unknown place after the murder of Kalladka Ismail. Just because BJP Government which is the God child of RSS is in power. He has been provoking the feelings of minority communities and encouraging majority youth to attack the minority community.
Several cases should have been filed against this rat by the police under Section 153A, 153B and Section 295 for not only promoting enmities between communities but even causing national disintegration and serious damage to the unity of this beautiful country with so many religions, languages, cultures, colors, and seasons. by speaking about the Hindu Rashtra he is abusing the constitution of India which a secular country.
Police should have by now filed thousands of cases against this rat for his traitorous activities, adn ‘Suo-Moto’. But our IAS and IPS officers who are unfit to be even peons in their own offices regularly go to him and prostrate before him and take instructions from him. He decides the promotions and transfers of IAS and IPS officers, it is indeed a shame to the founders of this country who wanted the IAS,IPS and IFS to be a steel frame of India so that the corrupt politicians are kept within the constitution and various acts of the government.
If they are unable to face this rat which has now become a bandicoot on their honor they should resign from their services as they have taken an oath to protect the constitution at any cost.
But are they honorable men?

All of you must be fully aware of the fact that the atrocities against minority communities and their places of worship, which have become a regular occurrence since the past few years, have recently reached intolerable heights. The multi-cultural society of our Tulunadu has a glorious history of peaceful co-existence. But these shameful incidents have made all of us hang down our heads in shame. In the year 2011 alone there were 66 incidents of attacks on Muslims and 15 against members of Christian communities which go to show the utter lawlessness of the communal elements. The unending caste and religious atrocities being perpetrated by the communalists have taken a heavy toll of life and property and people of Tulunadu are simply fed up with all this. It won’t be an exaggeration to say that as a result of such persecution a sense of terrible insecurity prevails among the members of the minority communities. People live in fear of their lives not knowing when and where these vicious elements would strike next. Who are these elements? Why do
they indulge in all these mischief?

Article 25 of the Constitution guarantees to the Indian citizen the freedom to choose any religion of his/her choice. A citizen also has the freedom to practice the religion he/she has thus chosen and has the right to profess and propagate it too. It has also been made amply clear that only forcible conversion is termed as an offence.

When the Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt takes to the streets and distributes copies of the Bhagavad Gita, is there a big a hue and cry saying it is an attempt at conversion? Are any attempts made to stop him? Does he get beaten up and handed over to the police? No. This being the case how can you accuse those who distribute the Bible, the Quran, the Guru Grintha Saheb and other religious literature of converting people? There is no empirical basis to the charge that the population of the minorities is on the increase because of such conversions. Those who make such baseless accusations are trying to create a wrong impression in the minds of the common people. One has only to verify all the relevant facts and figures and give some deep thought to the matter and the sinister purpose behind all such false allegations will be evident.

Do the Christians need a ‘permit’ to worship God in their houses or prayer halls? ‘Yes’, according to the police. Is there any such ‘permit system’ for the various Maths, Mandirs, Masjids, Gurudhwaras etc? Do all of them obtain prior permissions for conducting prayers? Are V.I.P.s such as the President, Prime Minister etc required to obtain prior ‘permits’ from the police for participating in Iftar meets? Obviously no. In that case who told the police to issue such unconstitutional orders? And why? If a group of ruffians barge into our houses when we are having dinner with the invitees after Satyanarayana Pooja, Ganahoma, Bhootada Kola, Nagaradhane etc, don’t we consider it as a grievous
offence? Similarly is it not wrong therefore, to trespass inside houses with deadly weapons, attack and grievously hurt people having Christmas dinner with their near and dear ones? Who are these attackers? Why do they indulge in all these evil acts?

It is quite natural for young boys and girls to fall in love with one another. Where love is concerned there are no barriers of caste, religion, nationality etc, etc. Is there any law in existence that prohibits people from falling in love? Still whenever young couples belonging to different religions are found together we see miscreants attacking them calling it as ‘Love Jihad’. Now who has given them such authority? And the ‘contract’ to ‘preserve the culture’? Neither we, nor you! So, who are these groups? Why do they indulge in such mischief?

There is nothing in the Indian Constitution that prevents people from eating beef. Nor is there any law in this regard. Slaughter of cattle above the age of 12 years is permitted by law. While the meat is meant for consumption, the skin and bones are used for making other useful by-products. When this is the case, who are those people who in the guise of protecting cows take law into their own hands and carry out attacks causing even deaths? Why do they do it?

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) which was born in the year 1925 supposedly as a cultural body has a political ideology too. It is called ‘Hindutva’ and their top leaders themselves have admitted to the fact. Its sole purpose is to establish a Hindu Rashtra with Vedic autocracy. The protagonists of Hindutva do not respect the Constitution and have no faith in democracy. The RSS ‘Guruvani’ states that Christians and Muslims should be dealt with in the same manner as Hitler did with the Jewish people. The RSS along with its various member organizations —BJP, VHP, Bajrang Dal, Sri Rama Sene are known as ‘Sangh Parivar’. All these member units of the Sangh Parivar work in an organized and  systematic manner towards a single goal — establishment of a Hindu Rashtra.

‘Conversion’, ‘Cow Protection’ , ‘Protection of Culture’, ‘Love Jihad’ are nothing but ruses to oppress the Tribals, Dalits and Minority Communities and ultimately turn them into second class citizens. This task has been given to Bajrang Dal, Sri Rama Sene and similar organizations. Others such as ‘Abhinav Bharat’, ‘Sanathana Samsthe’ etc have been given the responsibility of executing bomb blasts. What we are seeing today is not just confined to our districts alone but is a country-wide phenomenon. All these assaults, attacks, communal riots, bomb blasts, and other criminal acts have but one goal – to uproot the Constitution – and establish a Manuvadi ‘Hindu Rashtra’. The happenings in Malegaon, Samjotha Express, Mecca Masjid, Ajmer Darga…….. and what is happening in Udupi, Mangalore, Davanagere, Hubli, Kolar,
Chickmagalore, Sindhagi……. are all part of the same hidden‘agenda’.

Take the most recent Pakistan-flag-hoisting incident at Sindhagi in Bijapur district of Karnataka. Though progressive groups have all along been warning about the nefarious designs of Sangh Parivar, people used to look askance at them. No one would believe them. People could not, even in their wildest dreams, imagine that such ‘strictly god-fearing’ and ‘patriotic organizations’ were actually indulging in anti-social, anti-national and criminal activities. But the Sindhagi incident has changed all that. Finally people have woken up to the truth.

Terrorism is defined as the practice of using violence for achieving political ends. Viewed in this background, all the criminal activities of the Sangh Parivar fall into the category of terrorist acts. While the Maoists conduct their terrorist operations from the jungles, these religious fundamentalists carry out their terrorist activities from within the towns and cities. Though the Sangh Parivar activists openly challenge the Constitution and indulge in all sorts of terrorist activities, the glaring apathy, inaction and partiality on the part of the district administration and law enforcement machinery naturally gives room for suspicion. Can we see any respect for the Constitution and for maintenance of law and order here? Is there any feeling of respect here for the different faiths and religions of the Minorities? Are those senior officials who allowed such lawless organizations to operate with impunity fit to continue in their positions? Which side are these officials on – the law-abiding citizens from whose taxes they are paid their salaries or the miscreants out to create disharmony in society?

How long should the civil society tolerate such criminal acts? The local administration and the police department are required to be faithful only to the Constitution of India and not act as per the dictates of evildoers or anti-social organizations. These are elementary requirements. But here the authorities have not only failed to control communal attacks but also, despite knowing about the organizations that promote such activities, have proved totally ineffective in discharging their constitutional duties. The people are asking whether they are officials of a constitutionally established democratic India or the sepoys of “Hindu Rashtra”. They owe an explanation to the people.

People need to demonstrate and show their unhappiness, resentment and impatience to the rulers. We must condemn with one voice the unending communal atrocities and the partisan behaviour of officials. We must send across a clear message that we will no more tolerate the violent methods of the Sangh Parivar. We must shout at the top of our voices that under no circumstances will we allow our districts and our state to become another Gujarat or Odisha. We must send out a clear message to this most corrupt and the most inhuman Government that Karnataka has ever seen – that there is a limit for peoples’ patience.

All those citizens who desire the good of the district come and join us for the Rally and Protest

Meet of the 27th in large numbers.
