People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) is a national organization wedded to protection of human rights and its founders were such illustrious men in our country’s recent history, like the late Jayaprakash Narain, Acharya Kripalani, Krishna Kant and V M Tarkunde who joined hands to set up this body in the aftermath of draconian emergency from 1975 to 77 when the civil rights of the people like even to live, let alone express dissent were taken away by the establishment.

Ever since, the PUCL has been expanding its network and now we have its units practically in every state. The Karnataka State unit of the PUCL, with a new set of office bearers took office recently with Mangalorean Mr.P.B.D’Sa as its Chief. We have the privilege of two of the four Vice-Presidents and a Secretary also hailing from Mangalore.

India is a witness to a very sad situation where criminals , communalists and anti-social elements have infiltrated into politics, bureaucracy and police dept. As a result, custodial deaths, police torture, extortion and encounters by the Police have grown phenomenally. Govt Doctors and Judiciary have shamelessly joined hands with the Police. Honest citizens are exploited and tortured. There is injustice everywhere.

To show the power of people and the importance of public opinion in democracy, we have arranged for a People`s Audit on Police Torture in the Karavali belt on 11/12/10 and 12/12/10.

Enough priests in the church, the problem is their distribution

If you visit Ireland, you will find black priests there, as they do not have enough white priests to man the churches. Priest’s surplus from one diocese can go to any diocese in the world. But this depends on the Bishops concerned. If they need priests they can get them. In India we have surplus priests who run institutions, hospitals etc. Priests are not ordained to run these institutions; they are for pastoral and sacramental work, why not hand over the laymen and women such administrative functions? It is money sir, as these priests can paid a stipend and do not have a salary, if they appoint they have laymen women salary, this Bishop does not like. But in the process the Bishops and priests defalcate the funds, after all their heart is with money. Christ is money for them. Release the priests for evangelization, but the church is not interested as Bishops do not allow priests to spread Gospel of Christ’s. They with to maintain what they have and guard it well. After all our Bishop Thanu, Mun and Dhan is with the institutions. Some congregations like Society of St. Paul publish books and sell, why they can’t do some evangelization work? Did St. Paul told them to publish books, and become shop-keepers and hawkers? What are they achieving with their ordination? Nuns are running schools, many nuns without schools tell us we don’t have any income, because we do not have any schools, we live by donations and selling our crafts, books, cloths etc.

P.B.D’Sa Speaks,

First question I ask the Pope, the Bishops and all cassock wearing Catholic hypocrites, whether they have not masturbated or are not masturbating presently or are they not going to continue their habit [a most natural habit like that of shitting and urinating] in future. By making sex a taboo these hypocrites have made laymen suffer from guilty conscience. If these fools believe in restricting sex only for married couples then I would simply call them, crooks and bastards, because almost all 100% of them either have sex with innocent girls, cunning housewives, with religious men and women secretly or else masturbate sex urge needs outlet just like, urge or need to eat, urinate or shit. Abstinence in sex is against nature and against health. If Catholic Church has successfully fooled so many people and that too otherwise brilliant intellectuals, I really pity man’s ability in judging what is right or what is wrong. It is a pity that a most beautiful and spiritual and loving act of intercourse has been turned into a dirty and evil act. My dear Catholics please come out of this foolish beliefs, enjoy sex in its fullest glory and hang these bastards who exploit your sisters, daughters and your wives and your sons too. All priests and nuns who wish to marry should get married. If there are gays amongst Priests or lesbians amongst nuns let them continue to do it with their willing partners, but let them not trap innocent persons who have no urge or desire for it. But let there be end to this hypocrisy. Let us live a natural life and not an artificial or hypocritical life.

Pope: Condoms can be justified in some cases

Vatican City, Nov 20, (AP):
Pope Benedict XVI says in a new book that the use of condoms can be justified in some cases, such as for male prostitutes seeking to prevent the spread of HIV.
The pontiff makes the comments in a book-length interview with a German journalist, “Light of the World: The Pope, the Church and the Signs of the Times”. The Vatican newspaper ran excerpts of the book today.

Church teaching has long opposed condoms since they’re a form of artificial contraception. The Vatican has been harshly criticised for its position given the AIDS crisis.

Benedict said that for male prostitutes, for whom contraception isn’t a central issue, condoms are not a moral solution. But he said they could be justified “in the intention of reducing the risk of infection.”

Benedict drew unprecedented criticism from European governments, international organisations and scientists in March 2009 when he told reporters while flying to Africa that condoms would not resolve the AIDS problem there but, on the contrary, increase it.

The statement was condemned by France, Germany and the UN agency charged with fighting AIDS as irresponsible and dangerous.

While opposition to condoms is a long-standing church position, the Vatican felt constrained to step in and say Benedict wanted to stress that a reliance on condoms distracted from the need for proper education in sexual conduct.

Christian Weisner, of the pro-reform group We Are Church in the pope’s native Germany, said it was “surprising, and if that’s the case one can be happy about the pope’s ability to learn.”

The pope also says in the new book that if a pope is physically, psychologically or spiritually incapable of doing his job, then he has the “right, and under some circumstances, also an obligation to resign.”

Did Christ ordained the Apostles?

If  you   go  throughout  the  New  Testament, you  do  not  find  the  word  “Ordain”,  it  is  a  later   invention  of  the  church,  or  as  Fr.Tissa  Balasurya  says  “development  theology”.  The  New  Testament  and  old  testament  has  the  phrase  “laying   of  hands”,  even  Apostle  Paul  laid  hands  on  Timothy  and  made  him  a  presbyter.  Apostle  Paul  never  speaks  about  his  ordination  and  Christ  never  ordained  him,  but  call  him  to  preach  and  heal.  The  mission  entrusted  to  the  Apostles  is  to  “preach  and  heal”(Mark  16-15:18).  Mass  came as  later  development,   though  it  was  there  in  the  Apostolic  times,  breaking  of  bread  or  reperforming  the  last  supper  is  a  memorial  to  Christ.  It  was  hardly  celebrated  once  in  a  while  during  Apostolic  time with love banquet meals, called agape, then breaking of the bread etc. technically speaking Mass is not the monopoly of the ordained priests only, but Christ told everyone” do this in memory of me”. So then performing Mass by laity is not an infringement, but it is their privilege as baptized Christians. Do you agree!

Vatican issuing guidelines on sex abuse to bishops Vatican City

The Vatican has said it was planning to issue a set of guidelines to bishops around the world on responding effectively to the sexual abuse of children by priests that will include recommendations for prevention programs, better screening of priests and the need to obey civil reporting requirements.
Cardinal William Levada, who heads the Vatican office that deals with clerical sex abuse cases, told some 150 cardinals of the guidelines during a daylong summit yesterday that dealt in part with the sex abuse scandal.

A Vatican statement said Levada discussed the need for bishops to collaborate with civil authorities in reporting abuse, the need to protect children and the need for an “attentive selection and formation” of future priests. It said the guidelines, in the form of a letter to bishops’ conferences, would suggest a “coordinated and efficient program” to crack down on abuse.

Levada has previously said he thought the tough, zero-tolerance approach applied in US could be a model for bishops conferences globally. Those norms were developed in 2002 after the clerical abuse scandal erupted in the United States.

They bar credibly accused priests from any public church work while claims against them are under investigation. Diocesan review boards, comprised mostly of lay people, help bishops oversee cases. Clergy found guilty are permanently barred from public ministry and, in some cases, ousted from the priesthood.

The church abuse scandal erupted anew earlier this year in Europe and beyond with thousands of reports of priests who molested children, bishops who covered up for them and Vatican officials who turned a blind eye for decades. The Vatican has been reeling from the fallout, and included the issue on its agenda for a one-day summit of cardinals who were gathering in Rome for a ceremony tomorrow to name 24 new cardinals.

Laity perform Mass

Some  laity   have  boldly  say  mass   in  their  home   or   with  their  friends  or  at  parties.  Many  well  educated   and  people  with   good  income  participate,  they  may  offer  you  a  meal  or  drinks  for   participation  in  such  masses.  One  of  them  gives  good  sermon,   that  is  liked  by  all.  Now   laity  thinks  to  banish   their  ordination,  after  all  there  is  no   authentic  ordination   in   the  church.  This  trend  is  most  common  in  Europe  now,  and  has   spread  to  other  countries.  This  writer  has   attended  one  Mass  in  Europe  and  one  in  the  United  States  as  a  sampler,  we  don’t  find  any  difference,   except  partying   after   the   mass  and  prayers.  Late  Pope  John  Paul  II  knew  this,  and  requested  such  laity  not  to  say  Mass,  as  only  authorized,  ordained  priests   can  perform  Mass.  Who  is  Pope  to  restrict   laymen  from   worshiping  God  in  the  manner  which  they  like?  Has he obtained a from   God?

ABOLITION OF MULGENI/ CHALGENI

Is  possible  if  we  fight  unitedly

Govt  is  actively  thinking  of  abolition  of  the  curse  of  Mulgeni / Chalgeni  holdings  and  hand  over  Varga  rights  to  the  occupiers  because  the  said  arrangement  is  against  the  Human  Rights  of  an  Indian  Citizen.

It  Violates

  • Ø His  right  to  life  with  dignity
  • Ø His  right  to  a  decent  shelter
  • Ø His  right  to  own  minimum  land  which  he  has  developed  and  looked  after  with  care  for  15  to  20  generations
  • Ø His  right  to  equality  and  social  justice
  • Ø His  right  to   a  dignified  living
  • Ø His  right  to  development  and  progress

Cannon law favors the clergy

– Joe A  Lewis
In Cannon Law the retirement of a Bishop is when he attains 75 years. Most of the Catholic Bishops above 60 become senile at the age of 60 years, and are a spent force and some are ailing with diseases. Are they fit to administer the dioceses? Why they have long tenure. May be they must be appointed for 8-10 years that’s all. Most of the Bishops loose their imagination, administrative abilities and are recluse. Why the Vatican keeps sick and inform Bishops who cant administer their dioceses. If we make a study of the Catholice Bishops, most of them are unfit to manage their dioceses. After all in this church, the Bishops are imposed by the Vatican as lackeys.
Even if they  are  not  accepted  by  the  laity  they  are  imposed,  as  Vatican  thinks  the  men  they  impose  on  us  are  all  Holy,  quite  the  contrary,  they  are  the  men  who  go  into  sex  and   money  laundering  scandals,  and  sleaze.  By  imposing  unworthy  Bishops  Vatican  shows  its  dictatorial  powers  to  the  laity,  after  all  the  Pope  is  authoritarian.  To  remove  any  unworthy  Bishops  involved  in  wrong  doing  etc  takes  time,  unless  the  laity  protests.  If  the  media  takes  notice  and  publishes,  then  only  the  Vatican  acts,  till  then it  sleeps.  As  far  as  Vatican  is  concerned   the  “Bishops   can  do  no  wrong  and  act  no  wrong.”
